Struck by a Trademark

There’s been a lot of buzz regarding the similarities of the Obama and Pepsi trademarks.

Many have blogged on the similarities, and debated who copied whose logo.  Pepsi proudly endorses its new logo on its website, and extended the similarities with its “Yes You Can” campaign, a video of which can be seen here.

One thing seems sure, Pepsi stands by its new logo.  Let’s hope they continue to do so.

Shortly before 6:30pm on February 7th, 2009, across the street from the Hard Rock Cafe in Atlanta, Georgia, a worker was dismantling a third floor Pepsi sign when he dropped a triangular girder shaped piece of the Pepsi sign onto the pedestrian sidewalk below.  The sign piece fell and struck a woman, appearing to have seriously injured her.  A passing-by nurse tended the woman as police and an ambulance arrived.

Despite the commotion below, the worker continued dismantling additional pieces of the Pepsi sign, and dropped to the 3rd story floor another triangular girder shaped piece of the sign, further alarming pedestrians and police below.  Police used a bullhorn to call the worker down.

Let’s hope that Pepsi will continue to stand by its brand and pay for this woman’s tort injuries.

Paramedics arrive. The piece of the Pepsi sign that struck the woman lays in the background on the sidewalk, while another piece extends over the sidewalk from the third floor.
